Sep 25, 2014 The only major downsides I could see would be potentially sharp edges (which are easy enough to get rid of during manufacturing) and anodizing colors eventually wearing off. I've made pickguard shields from the thin aluminum sheets Home Depot sells and it's easy enough to work with, although those are way too thin and bendy for a pickguard.

Dec 04, 2010 Aluminum pickguards mess with the inductance and tone of your pickups. NOT recommended. The Aluminum bodies we used at the big F were a terrible tone robber as well. You could watch the inductance go haywire as you lowered the pickguard in to the body.
